Movie rights De Parvenu acquired by Eyeworks

Author Mark Schalekamp and Eyeworks work together on the development.

Eyeworks Film & TV Drama managed to acquire the movie rights of the book ‘De Parvenu’. Mark Schalekamp’s debut novel describes the longing to be someone you’re really not, human errors, vanity, love and addiction. Poignant and thrilling written with swiftness and wit. Next up is ‘De Parvenu’ third edition.

The story
‘De Parvenu’ tells the story of Hugo Stadman, a private banker in his early thirties, living in Amsterdam. He’s want to get higher up and with the forthcoming membership of the prestigious Rose society it seems to be working. But Stadman has a lot to hide, including his background and his past business process.

‘De Parvenu is a book you read as if it was a movie,’ says Hans de Weers, producer Eyeworks Film & TV Drama. ‘A fascinating and exciting story about the rise and fall of a young ambitious banker, with the credit crisis in the background. The humor and self-depreciation really appeals to us.

Mark Schalekamps successful debut as a novelist: ‘After several publishers rejected it, I wanted to publish my own book. My manuscript reached De Arbeidspers, a couple of weeks before I presented the 2000 books I published myself. Now it’s well received and maybe even become a film. Fantastic!’
